LETTER - I was astonished to read that our MP, Daniel Kawczynski, had launched an online poll last October to ask whether people believe there should be more public consultation before an incinerator is built at Harlescott (incinerator poll says no more consulting, March 31).

I did not know his poll was running and I am grateful to the Star for bringing it to my attention.

I now wonder whether people know that there is a petition on Prime Minister's website asking him to order an immediate cessation of the planning, building and commissioning of household waste incinerators until the health implications and safer, possibly cheaper, alternatives are fully investigated and debated by Parliament?

You can sign up at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UK-Incineration/

If you are still unconvinced about the environmental health effects of incinerators, then try searching the web for "infant mortality and incinerators" or "asthma and incinerators" or "cancer and incinerators". There are more than 150,000 entries.

Are all these people less informed than our so-called Government experts? And are the people who want a fully informed debate on the subject really just "nimbys"?
