Mandy Jackson appeared in the dock today at a brief hearing before she was sent to St Andrew's Hospital in Northampton for treatment and reports.

Judge John Wait told the 42-year-old, from Tern Hill, that a hospital order under Section 38 of the Mental Health Act was appropriate.

Jackson, who spoke only to confirm her name, is due to appear again at the crown court on July 25.

She had already pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempting to pervert the court of justice at an earlier hearing at which her ex-husband was given a life sentence for murdering her former lover.

John Jackson, 52, of Alexandra Road, Market Drayton, appeared at Derby Crown Court last November when he admitted murder and was told he would have to serve a minimum of 15 years.

His 19-year-old daughter Louise Christine Jackson, from Tern Hill, was sentenced to five-and-a-half years for helping to lure the victim to the scene of the attack.

The court had heard how Vivian Paul Price, 45, of Market Drayton, was found in the Shropshire Union Canal, about a mile south of Soudley in January last year. He died of head injuries after he was beaten with a brick.
