A sighting in another area Ð lights above Bromsgrove taken by Colin Middlemore, 32, while out fishing on Saturday nightUFO experts say parts of Shropshire are "hotspots" for extra-terrestrial activity.

Martin Curtis, of Dorrington, near Shrewsbury, made a report to the Ministry of Defence, after he saw a large bright light and a few smaller ones hovering over Church Stretton this morning.

His sighting comes two weeks after 13 craft were reportedly seen zig-zagging over Clive Barracks, Tern Hill, near Market Drayton.

Corporal Mark Proctor, of the Royal Irish Regiment, saw the lights when he and two colleagues were on night patrol on June 7.

The sighting came just two hours before helicopter police officers reported an encounter near Cardiff.

Today, Phil Hoyle, head of the Shrewsbury-based UFO research and investigation unit, said there had been numerous other unexplained objects in the area.

Fishermen from Sutton, near Tern Hill, regularly reported unusual lights.

Mr Hoyle said the A5 in Shrewsbury - where a couple reported being followed by a light hours after Corporal Proctor's sighting - was also a "hive of activity."

He said: "The A5 is a hotspot for UFOs, there have been numerous sightings. We've had lorry drivers and all sorts of people claiming to have seen things."

Nichola Pike said she had a similar experience on the A5 at Shrewsbury. Today, she said: "I saw the lights too, and they were actually spinning - definitely not UFO balloons or Chinese lanterns.

"They were actually spinning cubes of light. I saw them about 1am."

She added: "I got out of my car, as did others to look at this. You could clearly see them spinning."

Joe McGonagle, a UFO investigator from Stoke-on-Trent, said the Tern Hill sighting may have been caused by wedding celebrations, which have been linked to the Cardiff sighting, where a groom came forward and said his party may have been the reason the police helicopter reported seeing the lights.

He said: "I suspect what was seen was Chinese wedding lanterns."

The sighting at Tern Hill is the latest of several.

On the same night, a Telford man who did not want to be named, said he and his wife saw a strange red object in the sky between 10pm and 11pm at their Muxton home, and Wendy Astley, of Pant, reported seeing strange lights above her home about four weeks ago.

No one from the barracks was available for comment.
