A major four-month project to resurface one of Shropshire's main roads and upgrade its drainage system is to start on Monday. The roadworks along the A49 in Dorrington, Shrewsbury, are expected to result in delays for traffic travelling between the county town and Church Stretton.

During the work, set to be completed on May 20, the road will be closed overnight for eight nights in March, when traffic will be diverted through Much Wenlock.

The Highways Agency said most of the work will be carried out between the hours of 9.30am and 8pm.
