A 13-year-old schoolboy has been found dead at his Shrewsbury home.

Darian Francis, a pupil at Wakeman School, was found at his home in Sutton Farm yesterday.

Police today said the death was being treated as "unexplained" but are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident. Tributes were today paid to the teenager.

He was described as a "lovely young man" who was also fun-loving and active.

Family friend Dave Matthias, of the Barnabas Community Church in Longden Coleham, where Darian was an active member, said the family had been left devastated by his death.

Mr Matthias said: "This is a desperately sad time for all who knew Darian. He was a lovely young man and an active member of our Impact youth meetings on Fridays and also our Kidz Klub team on Saturdays.

"He loved helping the younger children have great fun.

"He will be sorely missed. The family are grateful for the sympathy and support they are receiving from both the school and the church community, but would request privacy as they seek to come to terms with this."

Pupils at Darian's school in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, were today told of the tragedy.

Karen Moore, headteacher of the Wakeman School said: "Our whole school community is saddened by the news of Darian's death.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time. Darian was popular with staff and fellow pupils and will be greatly missed."

Maria Hawkaluk, a spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, today said: "Police were called to an address in Shrewsbury at about 4.30pm yesterday.

"Officers attended and a teenage boy was found dead. His death is being treated as unexplained and at this stage police are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident."

She said John Ellery, the coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, has been informed of the death.

Mr Matthias said messages of condolence and flowers could be sent to the church by those wishing to extend their sympathies.

"Cards can be sent to the church office which we will pass on to the family," he said.
