Mid Wales MP, Lembit Opik will turn male model this week to help raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

The Montgomeryshire MP will take to the catwalk at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill fashion show at the Old Station in Welshpool on Thursday at 7pm.

Both male and female fashions will feature in the event, which is raising funds for the local branch of the Motor Neurone Association.

Spokeswoman, Pat Egerton, said: "We were delighted that Mr Opik agreed to be one of our models for the evening."

Mr Opik said he decided to take part in the fashion show because his father, Uno died from the disease.

"He was diagnosed just seven weeks before he died in April 2005," Mr Opik said.

"It is a horrible disease which makes the sufferer a prisoner in their own body. Every penny raised on Thursday will be a penny closer to find a cure ."

Tickets are available from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill or by calling (01686) 627630.
