A motorcyclist has died following an accident in Shropshire today.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

He had been involved in an accident with a car at a junction in Holyhead Road, Wellington, just after 9am.

A man in his 50s, who was driving the car, was treated for minor injuries and taken to the PRH. Three ambulance crews, two rapid response vehicles and an incident support officer were called to the scene.

An Air Ambulance helicopter also landed in a nearby field.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Suzie Fothergill said: "We were called to the junction of Hampton Hill and Herbert Avenue in Telford just before 9.20am. On arrival we found a motorbike and a car that had been in collision.

"The person on the motorbike was treated and conveyed to the Princess Royal Hospital."

Road closures were carried out by police as investigations continued.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "The motorcyclist was rushed to the Princess Royal Hospital but was unfortunately pronounced dead at around 10.30am."
