Victim of explosion is out of hospital

A victim of the Shrewsbury blast has been discharged from hospital.

Sarah Pearce, 19, has been at Selly Oak Hospital, in Birmingham since the explosion. She suffered burns when the flat she lived in, at the corner of Bridge Street and Smithfield Road, collapsed following a suspected gas leak.

Today a spokeswoman from the hospital confirmed she had been discharged from their care.

Her boyfriend Scott Godbold, 23, who also lived at the flat along with flatmate Sam Devine-Turner, 20, were also admitted to Selly Oak along with friend Annie Davies, 19, who had stayed the night at the flat.

Scott was the first to be released from hospital last month followed by Sam and Annie.

After the blast residents held collections, charity nights and sponsored events to help the victims. Yesterday a fund set up to raise money for the four people in the flat along with Theatre Severn panto star Kiley McDonnell, who suffered spinal injuries, was closed.

Councillor Jon Tandy, who is managing the fund, said he expects to know in about two weeks how much has been raised.

Last week Scott was presented with a special bravery award for helping to save Sam's life. Despite his serious injuries, Scott risked his own life to return to the ruins of his collapsed home to help rescue his flatmate.
