New performing arts classes launched by Telford arts centre

The Arts Centre Telford (TACT) has increased its performing arts education programme.

Education bosses say the classes have been launched following the announcement of the recent Government budget which indicated that schools could lose further funding in the coming years.

Ross Doodson, co-owner of the company and a long-time secondary educator, said: "We have seen that time and time again, when schools and educational facilities lose funding, one of the first casualties is the creative and performing arts offer.

"TACT has therefore launched a new range of classes and activities that will plug the gap left by the under-funding of our education system.

Confidence

"Research has consistently shown that an education which includes the performing arts increases a person's confidence, versatility and, crucially, their literacy.

"Indeed, many of our past students have gone on to careers well outside of the performing arts, such as pharmacy, for example.

"All of these students, however, consistently report back that they would not be doing what they do now, were it not for the training they received at institutions like TACT alongside their formal education.

"That is why we have created a new range of classes for our students at primary school age, from reception onwards.

"The classes are led by experienced tutors from the professional performing arts field and are overseen by the management team ensuring that high educational standards are always met and delivered in each class."

TACT Juniors offers classes in dance, singing and drama.

The classes focus on individual development and enjoyment and are 45-minute sessions.

The junior classes run on a Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings at TACT's Ketley base. New students can enrol at any time.

There are also rehearsals for TACT's main productions, which run on a Saturday.
