Organisers promised the show would contain the best of the modern day Royal Air Force, alongside classic aircraft and set pieces paying tribute to special anniversaries.

The Blades and the four ship Yakolevs will perform stunning aerobatic displays alongside the Red Arrows on June 8.

And the Canberra PR9 and the Spitfire PR11 have also been confirmed as part of the billing.

For the Spitfire, it will be a welcome return home as she was based at the Albrighton site for a time during the Second World War.

The jet line up includes the classic Hunter T7 and RAF Typhoon and at the other end of the scale will be a distinctive pair of Boeing Stearman biplanes with the Breitling Wingwalkers and the classic aircraft of the Great War Team.

Adam Sansom, station commander at RAF Cosford, today said he had been 'blown away' by last year's event which raised around £300,000 for good causes.

Last year's air show attracted some 50,000 visitors but led to heavy traffic on the M54.

This year organisers are considering capping the number of tickets on sale to avoid a repeat case.
