Shrewsbury restaurants giving diners chance to dine around the world for charity

Self Help Africa, an international development charity which works in 10 countries in Africa, is hosting its "global gastronomic adventure" on Tuesday in three Shrewsbury restaurants.

At Momo-No-Ki in Abbey Foregate, Number Four in Butcher Row and CSONS in Milk Street, diners will experience menus from Asia, France and Mexico, with the proceeds going to the charity.

The fundraiser got off to a flying start 12 months ago, when more than 50 customers raised almost £1,500. Organisers are hoping to top that total this time.

"It was a huge success last time," said Steph Smith, a fundraising officer with the charity.

"Guests will enjoy a global gastronomic adventure, taking in three fantastic restaurants and three corners of the world," she added.

"We received great feedback from our first Dine Around the World event last year, we're hoping to basically double the size of the event this time. We're close to selling out all our 99 tickets."

Self Help Africa works to tackle poverty, campaigning on a variety of issues including gender inequality, climate change and enterprise development.

Tickets for Dine Around the World are £25 per person. Call (01743) 277170.
