Shrewsbury's Dana prison hosting Halloween events

It was home to prisoners for more than 100 years but Shrewsbury's Dana prison will be welcoming youngsters this weekend for some Halloween trick or treating.

The event is part of a Halloween weekend of activities, including three nights of zombie themed events, where the prison will be overrun with the undead.

Joel Campbell, of Jailhouse Tours, the company operating the prison, said that children under 12 are invited to go along on Saturday between 4pm and 5pm, where they can receive sweets from "prisoners" free of charge.

However, Mr Campbell had a warning for any youngsters planning to "trick" the prison on their visit.

He said: "We are going to have two prison officers and two or three prisoners who will give out sweets through the blue gates but we will have a few surprises in store for anyone planning to 'trick' the prison though – we have got 128 empty cells!"

About 400 people are expected to attend the prison tonight, tomorrow and Saturday evenings as they take on the challenge of escaping from a prison overrun with zombies.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's zombie event on (01743) 343100.
