Almost 50 floats took part in the Oswestry Christmas parade on Saturday, with organisers hailing it as one of the best yet.

Jonathan Jones, of Oswestry's Borderland Rotary Club, which organises the event, said: "It has once again drawn a large number of people to see one of the few parades of this kind in the country."

The Borderland Rotary Club took over the event from the Round Table in 2005 and Mr Jones said that interest in the parade is now as high as it has ever been.

He said: "It was great to see so many groups parading today and this gives them all the chance to advertise what they do and perhaps interest others in joining them."

The parade not only brings more people into Oswestry, it also helps to raise money for charities and deserving causes, Mr Jones said.

He added: "The money we raise will be donated to three charities, the Oswestry Food Bank, the Stroke Club and Oswestry Community Support Group.

"As ever with events like this it takes a great many people to organise it and make it all happen."
