Visitors to part of the Shropshire Union Canal will once again be able to enjoy a boat ride and take in the scenery until the end of October.

A new season of the Audlem Lass, a volunteer-run boat service based in Audlem near Market Drayton, has been launched.

The Audlem Lass takes people from the Overwater Marina to Lock 15 on the Shropshire Union Canal every Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday from the end of March to the end of October.

Joe Hoyles, part of the project, said: "The Audlem Lass boat service starts its new season today.

"It will be running all Easter weekend with the last sailing at 4.15 pm from Lock 15 to the Marina on Monday 28. Then it will run is every weekend throughout April from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

"The service also runs at weekends plus bank holidays until the end of October.

"This season we are welcoming five new volunteers to help operate the boat and they are all looking forward to meeting as many visitors as possible.

"We are now taking bookings for mid-week charters which operate throughout the season, so how about booking a picnic trip to Hack Green picnic area, a birthday party treat, or for any other occasion?"

Advance bookings are needed for such trips and can be made by calling (01270) 811926 or by emailing hello@audlemlass.co.uk.

Joe added: "Don't forget, for those of you with special mobility needs, that we can combine a trip on The Audlem Lass with the the Maughan Lass.

"We look forward to meeting everyone during 2016."

Last year The Maughan Lass, a wheelchair friendly boat, was launched by the Overwater Wheelyboat project.

The Audlem Lass is a volunteer-run service in support of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

Since its very first journey in Easter 2010, the Audlem Lass has transported more than 12,000 passengers, including dogs and pushchairs, raising well over £16,000 for the RNLI since its inception.
