Owners of the estate near Bridgnorth, Peter and Diana Williams, opened up the grounds in partnership with St Mary's Church.

On view to the public were 10 acres of gardens, which feature colourful arrays of bright flowers, lawns and water features.

In total around £3,000 was raised for the church at the event on May 22 which will go to helping fund a new organ. Around 400 people visited the gardens of the estate, which dates back to Tudor England. Mr Williams said: "It was the fundraising committee of the church that organised the event.

"We haven't opened the garden for two years. The estate dates back to around the 1530s.

"The gardens were well attended in the 18th century and used to see thousands of people visit when the site used to be even bigger."

Peter's wife Diana was born at Enville Hall and both have lived at the estate since 1999.

Enville Hall, the ancestral home of the Earls of Stamford and Warrington, lies at the heart of the estate, which extends to some 6,500 acres of countryside surrounding the pretty village of Enville itself and close to the town of Stourbridge.

Another open garden event in aid of a church took place recently a few miles from Enville.

Trysull Church held its Open Garden Weekend from May 14 to 15 which saw Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visit.

The event included 10 gardens in Trysull and Seisdon opening to the public. Visitors had the chance to see points of interest such as stalls selling plants and produce and craft set out on the route.

Among the gardens were plots promoting wildlife, herbs, fruits, vegetables and many different views of the Staffordshire countryside.

Mr Williamson said: "I had a wonderful time visiting the gardens in Trysull and Seisdon."
