Town ready for Clun Carnival capers

A town is gearing up for its annual carnival, now in its 129th year.

Clun Carnival will see a week of events from July 30, but show day itself is August 6.

The day will include a procession around the town, and a craft and produce show entertainment on the Castle Meadow.

The carnival procession begins at 1pm, featuring the Chase Jazz Band, carnival floats and vintage vehicles, for which entries are still being taken.

The official crowning of the Carnival Queen in The Square at 1.30pm.

The carnival show begins at 2pm and will feature the Mid Wales Axemen, ferret racing, bird of prey displays, Zumba dancers, Joey the Juggler, face painting, a bouncy castle, refreshments and a bar. At 4pm there will be a clay pigeon shoot. The show marquee will be displaying flowers, produce, preserves and crafts.

Details of all the classes and how to enter are in the show schedule, available from shops and pubs around Clun. All entries must be registered by July 31.

On August 7, there will be a Carnival Praise service at the showground. The famous "Clun Carnival Canter", a five-mile run from the White Horse pub, will take place on the evening before show day, on August 5 at 7.30pm, followed by live music at the White Horse at 9pm.
