Bosses at the Buttermarket have been working hard on a free music festival for the town after the festival's parent company went into liquidation.

Free Festival, which will be held on September 16 and 17 at the Buttermarket, is open to all.

It's free to those who had previously purchased tickets for the cancelled Shrewsbury Fields Forever, with children who are accompanied by an adult welcome to enjoy the day on the Saturday.

Grant Lees, group operations director for the Buttermarket, said: "Preparations for our first indoor festival are hotting up.

"Since first launching Free Fest, we've been inundated with great local artists and bands looking to join the festival line-up. The local support has been overwhelming.

"We'll be pleased to see a multi-genre line-up launch on September 16, with drum and bass to commercial DJs setting the vibe for the weekend.

"We're also delighted that Shropshire's legendary Planet Breaks returns to the Cellars on Saturday evening, along with Pop Up House and Traffic.

"We're pleased to announce BBC Introducing Shropshire will be hosting our daytime stage from 2pm on September 17 with acts such as Savannah, Zach Said, Miller Blue and Heidi Brown among others.

"This daytime event will be perfect for families and children are welcome."

Those who purchased a ticket for Shrewsbury Fields Festival can claim their free ticket to Free Fest, but are advised to do so as soon as possible as these are limited. If you don't have a Shrewsbury Fields Forever ticket, then it costs just £5 per day.
