Review with pictures: Jimmy Osmond - Moon River And Me, Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

The Osmond brothers started out as the backing singers for Andy Williams on his TV show which ran for hundreds of programmes in the 60s and early 70s. Jimmy first appeared on the show in 1966.

A few years later he had a number one hit with Long Haired Lover From Liverpool.

The youngest singer ever to do so and he still holds his title in the Guinness Book of Records.

The Osmonds became very popular with an army of screaming fans and many of these were at Theatre Severn on Saturday night.

The screaming was gone but there was a lot of standing and dancing in the seats accompanied by excited murmurs.

This was impressive in an audience in which few were under the age of 65.

The show featured sections with Andy Williams singing on film and two numbers, including Moon River, with Jimmy singing duet with Andy Williams as a hologram.

After 50 years in show business he knew how to work the audience.

The numbers were very professionally sung with a first rate group of backing musicians illustrated by screens showing film of Andy and other artists and locations.

There were two singers who sang solos: Emily Penny from Jump and Charlie Green, who was in Britain's Got Talent.

But the audience were there to see Jimmy and became more enthusiastic with each number. He didn't put one word or note out of place and displayed an easy and relaxed manner. The lady next to me almost knocked my eye out in her desire to touch him and shake his hand as he passed through the audience. It was clearly his night and his audience and he left them crying out for more.

At the end of the whole audience were on their feet.
