Families in Christmas outdoor cinema treat beneath Bridgnorth town hall - with video

Dozens of families sat on hay bales braved the cold for a screening of two Christmas classics wrapped up in jumpers, woolly hats and blankets.

Children of all ages were treated to a showing of The Grinch starring Jim Carrey, before a slightly older audience settled in for cult hit The Gremlins.

The free event was held under Bridgnorth's town hall and was the latest outdoor cinema event put on by the volunteers behind the town's music and arts festival.

Entry was free but generous donations of nearly £300 from attendees and sponsorship from businesses throughout Bridgnorth helped to cover the costs.

Jenny Bone, 38, one of the organisers, said it had been a superb evening.

"We had a huge amount of families come down for The Grinch," she said.

"It was wonderful to see so many children there with their parents.

"We had a slightly older group for The Gremlins. It's trying to choose films that are going to attract a wider audience.

"Because it's an outside film, you're not going to get a lot of elderly people out in the cold, so that helps to decide which films we pick.

"Luckily it was quite mild and people knew what to expect.

"They were turning up with sleeping bags and blankets."

Earlier this year the group showed The Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Grease.

Jenny, who manages My Little Wedding Shop in Castle Terrace, said: "We're going to do no more than one a season because we don't want the novelty factor to wear off. We'll always do one at Christmas. There is a huge amount of volunteer time that goes into it. We all work so we're working on it whenever we can."
