Shropshire's Tern Hill Hall transformed into a wedding venue
It was once the home for service men of the nearby barracks during World War II - but now after six years of hard graft and more than £2 million of investment, Tern Hill Hall has been transformed into a wedding and events venue.
Built in 1911 for Colonel Coghill and his wife, the hall, near Market Drayton, was believed to have been a wedding present from her family.
In the 1950's it was turned into a hotel but shortly after opening there was a fire which destroyed most of the roof and the top floor.
It was still operated as a hotel until the Marson Family purchased the hall in 2011.
Since then the family have transformed the venue with the aim of making the hall one of the leading wedding venues in the area.
In 2013 and 2014 the ground floor rooms and most of the first floor was refurbished.
This was followed by a new ballroom and orangery opening in 2014 to create a new dynamic to the hall.
Now the family is working on plans to refurbish the top floor and the three remaining bedrooms.
The six acres of land which Tern Hill Hall stands in is also maintained and improved year on year.
Managing the development of the hall, husband and wife team Laura and Richard Marson, together with Richard's sister Tracey Marson-Holland, took on the monumental task of refreshing Tern Hill Hall.
Laura said: "Since we acquired the hall, we have worked really hard to transform the venue back into a beautiful place for people to host their weddings and special events.
"As the building has had such a varied history of uses, the renovation has been tough one.
"We have certainly had to rely on the vision of what we wanted Tern Hill Hall to look and feel like, as a point of reference when all the building work was going on.
"Keen to restore it back to its original grandeur, we also wanted to subtly add modern twists to the design and décor that would sit alongside the original features of the building, to enable us to offer something very special to our clients.
"It has been a real labour of love and we believe that we have achieved what we set out to do.
"We started a few months after we purchased the hall and built a large extension to replace the existing marquee.
"We have revamped most of the 10 bedrooms so wedding guests and the wedding party can stay over. There is a potential to increase the number of bedrooms in the future.
"We hold weddings and events all year round. We have been really busy since we started holding weddings at the site and the reaction has been great.
"We provide all the catering and also most of the rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies.
"We also hold a number of concerts and themed evenings throughout the year with well-know and established groups and tribute acts along with murder mystery events."
An autumn wedding fair will be held at the hall on September 24 from 11am until 3pm and there will be a wedding showcase evening on October 12 from 6pm until 9pm.
