Shrewsbury Town were today reeling after losing their second loanee in the space of 72 hours.

Striker Jamie White has been recalled by Championship side Southampton after joining Town in November.

The 19-year-old forward was due to have a further 10 days of his second month loan at the Prostar Stadium to run.

But the Saints have triggered a 24-hour recall clause which forms part of any temporary move extended beyond an initial first month.

Southampton acted after Matt Patterson was shown a red card in the 3-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, and White is expected to go straight into their squad for Saturday's trip to Barnsley in the Championship.

The teenager bagged one goal for Shrewsbury in four starts and six substitute appearances, that a fine individual effort in the 2-1 triumph over Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of November.

His premature departure provides a fresh blow for manager Paul Simpson who was forced to send midfielder Joss Labadie back to West Brom after just one game earlier this week.

Labadie fractured his fifth metatarsal in training on Monday.

And White's exit further reduces Simpson's attacking options for Saturday's visit of Chester.

Leading scorer Grant Holt begins a two-match suspension for accumulating 10 bookings, and White would have been a major contender for a starting place against Mark Wright's side.

That will leave Richard Walker, Michael Symes and Dave Hibbert all battling for starting berths.

Right-back Darren Moss missed training earlier in the week after sustaining a tight calf in the goalless draw at Bradford.

But he is expected to be fit for the weekend, and it's a similar story with central defender Graham Coughlan, who was struggling with a tight calf in the early stages of the week.
