Motorists have declared The Who's My Generation the best driving anthem of all time.
Motorists have declared The Who's My Generation the best driving anthem of all time.
The HiQ fast fit tyre network commissioned a survey of 200 UK motorists to discover which track is the most enjoyable to listen to in the car, and Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend's inimitable sounds were deemed the most popular.
A separate poll to find the most popular album put Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at the top of the charts.
In a singles list dominated by rock and indie artists, Queen's Don't Stop Me Now was second, with Steppenwolf (Born to be Wild) third, The Prodigy fourth (Firestarter) and David Bowie fifth (Heroes).
HiQ's marketing manager Geraldine McGovern said: "We didn't know what to expect when we put the question to drivers. If I said I had heard of all of the entries I would be lying, but we thought The Who was a good choice."
HiQ cannot confirm whether uplifting music keeps motorists alert on long journeys, but the company encourages drivers to take a break if tired, and to plan long journeys in advance.
"Participating centres are all offering free vehicle health checks to ensure that cars are in good, safe working order," Ms McGovern said.
