Jasper Carrot joined Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing and former ELO drummer Bev Bevan at Astbury Hall near Bridgnorth to launch this year's Lord's Taverners charity golf day.

The 2010 event raised £7,000 for disabled children across the UK and will feature sporting and music celebrities playing 18 holes at the course, which is in the grounds of KK Downing's home.

The Brummie comic is a keen amateur golfer, having played in charity events across the world, and is looking forward to taking part in this year's event on September 14.

He said: "The money raised will go to encouraging children to play all sorts of sports and to buy special vans that have been modified for handicapped children. It is very important work. A lot of the money is raised through golf, but also cricket. The celebrities come along and play with three people in a team and all the money goes to The Lord's Taverners."

The golf day has been organised by businessman David Coleman, who is hoping this year's event, which will be the third time it has been run, will be the biggest yet.

He said: "This year's event will be a far larger affair, with guests treated to a laser shoot prior to the day's events. There will be pre-dinner trick shot entertainment and the chance to purchase a DVD of the day, with a donation made to The Lord's Taverners."
