Comedian Greg Davies stepped back in time and revisited his childhood in Shropshire as part of filming for a television programme. Wem-born Greg visited his former school, St Peter's Primary, yesterday.

He was recording his comedy show Dave's One Night Stand.

The programme features stand-up comedians performing in their home towns and is set to be aired in April or May.

Mr Davies, whose parents still live in the north Shropshire town, dressed up in an old-style school uniform and performed a comedy sketch.

Angela Harrop, school business manager, said: "It is great to have Greg Davies returning to his old school and former town.

"I know his parents still live here and he comes back a lot. It was his idea about filming in the school and the children were really looking forward to it."

As part of the filming, Mr Davies visited Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on Monday night. One of his opening jokes was about a Shropshire Star story about a dentist who lost his job after breaking wind.

Mr Davies's act also included plenty of jokes about his formative years in Wem and about the friends he had at school, many of whom were in the audience.

He said he loved Shropshire and has never missed a Christmas in Wem.

In 2007, Mr Davies was nominated in the Chortle Awards for his part in the sketch show We Are Klang.

Last year his first solo stand-up show, Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog, was nominated for the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

He has also appeared as a guest panellist on TV shows Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
