Shropshire man Trumpet Major Tim West will play a key role in this month's royal wedding service at Westminster Abbey as Prince William finally marries Kate Middleton.

Trumpet Major West, 35, from the Life Guards which along with the Blues and Royals are part of the Household Cavalry, will be one of eight who will be positioned in a vantage spot in the Abbey for the ceremony.

The State Trumpeters will play a fanfare moments after the Queen has entered the Abbey and Mr West has spoken about his nerves and delight at taking part in William and Kate's big day on April 29. He said: "It's a once in a lifetime event and an opportunity that's second to none."

Asked if he was apprehensive the soldier, from Telford, replied: "Personally I think nerves should be saved for five minutes before the big event to give you a little bit of an edge."

He added that the best four trumpeters from each of the Blues & Royals and the Life Guards had been chosen to take part and they would start practising for the event in the next few days.

As part of his role Mr West took part in rehearsals at Westminster Abbey yesterday to ensure the big day runs smoothly.

The bride-to-be was there to see the trumpeters, choir and others who will be involved taken through the ceremony to prepare them for such a grand occasion.

Mr West was wearing his glittering state dress uniform - a tunic hand-stitched with gold thread and costing about £6,000.
