The Longmynd Hotel, which overlooks Church Stretton, has been sold to a holiday operator in a multi-million pound deal, it was revealed today.

The hotel is being taken over by HF Holidays, which organises walking and outdoors holidays across the country.

A deal has been agreed for HF Holidays, which has its headquarters in Hertfordshire, to take over the venue, which has been run by the Chapman family since 1977, on a five-year lease-purchase arrangement. The hotel was put on the market for £1.75 million in October last year.

Lee Chapman, the former hotel owner, said: "I'm very much embedded within the Stretton community and we have a number of business interests in the area to keep us busy. I will miss the loyal customers and staff at the hotel. We have a great team which is why HF Holidays wanted to get their hands on the hotel.

"I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work over the years."
