The Cosford Air Show – one of UK's top aviation events – is set for a revamp, organisers revealed today. A new management team has taken over the organisation of the one-day event, which attracts thousands of visitors each summer.
They have pledged to make some changes and introduce new ideas. RAF bosses say key members of the team retired, prompting the RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises to take over.
Amanda Butcher, the new Cosford Air Show co-ordinator, said the changes made would enhance the visitor experience.
She said: "This is one of the best airshows in the UK, so this is very exciting for the CTE.
"We are introducing a few new ideas and making small changes to make it more of an experience but it will always be aimed at families, as well as keeping plane enthusiasts happy.
"We would like to thank the previous team for all their support. They made a name for themselves for all their effort and will be a hard act to follow."
Changes to this year's show include the theme which is centred on the 100-year anniversary of the Central Flying School – the world's oldest military flight school.
This year will also feature a display by the RAF Sea King, on loan from Valley Search and Rescue, the base Prince William is currently stationed at.
The Sea King will perform an aerial display demonstrating air rescues followed by a ground display from mountain rescue teams. A Lancaster bomber and a Spitfire will take part in the Battle of Britain Memorial flight which will also soar through county skies.
There will also be high speed displays by the Typhoon and Tornado jets with a welcome return by the Red Arrows.
The organisers are working alongside the Weston Park Model Air Show, which takes place over the same weekend.
Cosford Air Show will take place on June 17. Visit www.cosfordairshow.co.uk
