The man's body was found in open countryside a few miles from the village yesterday afternoon.

Although formal identification has yet to be carried out, it is believed to be that of 41-year-old Andrew Macauley, who went missing from his home in Shrewsbury Road shortly before 9pm on Sunday.

Police and neighbours conducted an immediate search of the rural area around his home on Sunday night and officers, including a dog handler, resumed the search on Monday morning.

They were joined by a three-man team of volunteers from Severn Area Rescue Association who used a boat and inflatable raft to search the Cound Brook which runs through Condover.

Police had said that although Mr Macauley was wearing several layers of clothing, including a jumper, he left home without a coat and he left his mobile phone behind.

Detectives said Mr Macauley's family had been informed.

Shropshire coroner, Mr John Ellery has been informed.

An inquest will be opened in due course.
