The Abbey Foregate branch will shut from 12.30pm on Saturday, April 6, reopening on Thursday, April 18, at 9am.
While the refurbishment is going, a temporary mobile service will operate from outside the branch between 10am and 4pm on Mondays to Fridays.
The new-look post office will have extended opening hours and three screened serving positions.
The work is being carried out as part of a nationwide modernisation programme by the Post Office affecting about half of the organisation's branches.
Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales and the West of England, Tony Jones, said: "This modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme."
