Controversial plans for a weekly lap dancing night at a Shrewsbury club will be put to the vote next month.

Rob Bywater, the owner of the Source Vodka Bar on Barker Street, has applied for a licence to use the venue as a 'sex encounter establishment'.

He plans to host a Thursday lap dancing night, featuring a mixture of pole dancing in the club area and lap dancing in private booths.

But the plans have come under fierce criticism from Shrewsbury Town Council who claim the lap dancing night would 'contravene the human rights' of residents living nearby.

Today it was revealed the application will be put to the vote at Shropshire Council's licensing and safety sub-committee meeting on April 10, which will be held at Shirehall from 10am.

Shropshire Councillor for Underdale, Miles Kenny, said he hoped the plans would be thrown out.

"It is not suitable for this town and there is a lot of feeling against the application. I hope that those on the committee will see sense in not having this," he said.

Mr Bywater said the venue was already allowed to hold lap dancing nights once per month, but due to public demand he had decided to apply for the 'sex encounter establishment' licence to hold weekly events.
