Staff and volunteers at Oak Farm, in Ditton Priors, have been busy preparing the animals before being entered in today's judging competition.

The farm is a day service for adults with learning disabilities, which provides vocational training and work related experience in horticulture and agriculture.

The pigs are in the Kune Kune class, with service users helping out. The farm's future is currently uncertain following Shropshire Council's plans to close a number of its day care centre.

Farm manager Stuart Toulson said: "At the moment Oak Farm is okay because we're moving towards a Community Land Trust, which will be run by the community. We're very grateful to Burwarton for allowing us to showcase what we do."

The annual event, which was voted Best One Day Agricultural Show in 2012, is looking to bounce back from last year's heavy downpours which forced the event to be cancelled. It was set to enjoy temperatures into the 80s today.

Show chairman Richard Yates said: "We were devastated to lose out last year and it cost the committee a considerable sum of money. We are extremely proud of our area and now's the time to get this show back on the road.

"We were voted best agricultural show in 2012 so we have to try and climb that mountain again. A number of people have spent weeks putting the show on so hopefully everything will come good. The showground has never looked better and we're expecting a heatwave."
