Charles Lawson, 60, from Hadley in Telford, wrote to Flintshire magistrates at Mold saying Christmas Eve was the Sabbath of his non-denominational Texas-based Ecclesia Bible Church. Ecclesia's holy day clashed with the hearing and he had written to the court in advance requesting an adjournment. He offered to attend on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and various other days.

At Tuesday's Chrisstmas Eve hearing magistrates said they accepted it was against his religious belief to attend court that day and adjourned matters until December 30.

A trial date is then expected to be fixed.

Lawson denies speeding at Bont Ddu in Gwynedd.
