Custard guru's rural retreat up for sale
A country house which once provided a summer haven for the world-famous inventors of custard powder has gone on the market.
Plas Tanat, at Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, was used by the Bird family as a sporting lodge and summer retreat when they lived in Birmingham.
It is also one of the few properties in the Mid Wales region which was designed as part of the arts and crafts movement which was led by William Morris in the 1860s and which continued its influence well into the 20th century.
Victoria Pocock, of selling agents Carter Jonas, described Plas Tanat as a "beautiful country house fronted by two rivers with superb sporting opportunities".
