Susan Elan Jones said the two-year suspended term given to Dennis Igo, 53, of Bronington, near Whitchurch, was "totally inadequate".

The Clwyd South MP questioned how Igo could be allowed to walk free in the community.

She said: "This is a man who was involved in the making and viewing of more than a quarter of a million indecent images of children over a seven-year period, and yet he's been effectively let off with the weakest of all sentences.

"I have heard from many constituents in Bronington over the weekend and they are all as horrified as I am.

"The same judge sentenced to jail for two years a man involved in a £20,000 fake coins scam. That strikes me as a very odd idea of justice indeed."

Mold Crown Court heard that Igo had 255,667 indecent images and 834 movies.

Igo, of Little Green, admitted 16 charges and was sentenced on Friday.

He must carry out 300 hours' unpaid work and he was placed on supervision.
