Shrewsbury-born Suzanne Evans will be going up against current Conservative MP Daniel Kawczynski next May.
Ms Evans, who once worked for the BBC, was a Tory councillor who defected to Ukip in the London borough of Merton. She lost her seat, and now plans a return from the capital to her home town.
Originally of Forton Heath, Montford Bridge, she is Ukip's national communities spokeswoman.
She said: "Lots of people have been asking what I'm going to do after losing my Merton Council seat and the good news is I'm going to be the prospective parliamentary candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham."
