Bridgnorth care home staff and residents celebrate 25th fair
Rain couldn't dampen spirits at a care home's annual summer event.
The staff and residents at Danesford Grange in Bridgnorth celebrated their 25th strawberry fair on Saturday, with a range of events and activities for all. More than £1,000 was raised for the home's comfort fund.
Debra Lewis, administrator at Danesford Grange, said: " A large marquee was erected to accommodate everyone.
"The rain ceased just in time for visitors arriving, but the weather didn't deter people and we had a good turnout."
The fair was opened by Bridgnorth mayor Councillor Edward Marshall and his wife.
Music was provided by singer Kim Lethbridge and local magician Sonny Pennington mingled amongst the crowd displaying card tricks.
There was also a craft stall, tombola and raffle where many of the prizes had been donated by local businesses, the home's suppliers and resident's families.
In a second tent was a selection of cakes for cream teas.
Between the showers, Christopher Rands, partner of Danesford Grange, was locked into the stocks and residents, families and staff donated money to take turns in throwing wet sponges at him.
Resident Dorothy Oliver - also known as Dolly - celebrates her 90th birthday at the home this week and her family came along to celebrate with her at the event.
Ms Lewis said: "The strawberry fayre was a great success which raised a total of £1070, with all proceeds going to the Danesford Grange Residents Comfort Fund."
