Firefighters spent almost an hour battling the blaze, which broke out in a first-floor bedroom at a three-storey semi-detached house in Coton Crescent in Coton Hill.

It left the building heavily smokelogged and the house badly damaged.

It is not known if anyone was in the house when the fire broke out or what caused it, but firefighters did rescue a pet rabbit from the ground floor.

Two fire crews from Shrewsbury attended the house after the fire was reported shortly before 9pm on Saturday. The house was ventilated and the scene was clear shortly after 10.15pm.

Crews were also called to tackle a chimney fire at a house in Porthill Gardens, Shrewsbury. They attended the home at 5pm yesterday and put out the blaze.
