Exploding paraffin lamp sparked fire at pensioner's home
A house fire that led to a pensioner being airlifted to hospital was caused by an exploding paraffin lamp, it was revealed today.
The 70-year-old was airlifted from his home in George Road in Knighton on the Shropshire-Mid Wales border to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the blaze on Friday night. There has been no further update on his condition.
Meanwhile, firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Highley last night.
Crews attended a home in Coronation Street to tackle the blaze. No injuries were reported.
The fire came after another chimney fire was put out earlier in the day at Butley Moor, Knowbury, near Ludlow.
Firefighters were called to the house at 9.24am.
Elsewhere n the county, crews were also called to tackle a chimney fire at a house in Porthill Gardens, Shrewsbury. They attended the home at 5pm yesterday and put out the blaze.
