Yule never believe it - daffodils spring into life for Christmas in Shropshire

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - and spring, for that matter.

For just a week before Christmas Day, daffodils are already coming up in Shrewsbury.

They were spotted in Harlescott by Roy Whittall, of York Road, a full two months before they normally arrive.

Mr Whittall and his wife spotted the flowers in Harlescott Grange and thought it might be some evidence of the warmest December for years.

On Wednesday night, the temperature in Shrewsbury didn't drop below 11C (51.8F), with some parts of the county not dropping below 10C (50F).

Yesterday saw highs of 13C (55.4F) with temperatures falling only as low as 5C (41F).

And with sun expected over the next few days, the daffodils should feel right at home.

Some parts of the country are set to see temperatures of up to 14C(57F) thanks to warm westerly winds.

But they may have to work hard to survive much longer, as temperatures look to drop each day as low as 2C/25F on December 27.
