Christian Skitt, 19, groped the victim's bottom and grabbed at her crotch as their paths crossed in New Street, Dawley, Mr Mike Phillips told Telford Magistrates Court.

Mr Phillips said the victim "could not believe what had happened" to her on November 25 and had since felt anxious about going out alone. He said the woman was worried about bumping into the defendant, his family or friends and now never left the house on her own.

She immediately called the police and had picked the defendant out of an identity parade, the court was told.

Skitt, of Cedar Close, Overdale, Telford, admitted one charge of sexual assault when he appeared at Telford Magistrates.

Mr Shaun Davies, for Skitt, said that the defendant had been walking with his sister who had dared him to smack the backside of the woman as they passed her.

"This is a young man who tells me it was a stupid, stupid mistake," said Mr Davies.

"He knows it's wrong but he was led by a dominant figure in the family," he added. and said: "He tells me now that he was very immature then."

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until March 13 for the preparation of a report. Davies was released on bail not to contact the victim.
