Market Drayton mother in parent parking appeal

A mother's campaign could lead to more parent and child parking spaces in a Shropshire town.

Consultation has begun in Market Drayton to see if people want more of the larger spaces in town council car parks. However, each parent and child spot would mean the loss of three regular spaces.

But 33-year-old mother of two Emma Gledhill has already gathered more than 50 signatures backing the idea.

Councillors said they had not received the same level of support – prompting criticism from residents who said not enough people were approached.

A consultation form has been made available through community magazine, The Drayton Messenger. Town mayor Tim Beckett said: "This came from the consultation we had at the council.

"I hope to see people respond either way to either support or not to support. If we only get a few people responding, then we won't get an overall picture of whether it is needed or not."

All forms should be completed and returned to the town hall in Frogmore Road by April 30
