The appeal was launched by Mr Lam's wife Mary, who said her husband died following a tragic accident as a result of epilepsy related postictal psychosis.

All the money raised is being given to Fable – For A Better Life with Epilepsy. On the JustGiving page, Mrs Lam said: "I am raising awareness of a form of epilepsy for Fable. My husband died following a tragic accident at Southwater, as a result of epilepsy related postictal psychosis.

"As a result of this I hope to raise some funds towards raising the awareness of the seriousness of this illness."

Police have questioned and released one man in his late 20s following reports that onlookers filmed Mr Lam and goaded him.

The police say they are in talks with the Crown Prosecution Service and they are confident they can prosecute anyone involved in the goading.
