Man arrested in Telford petrol terror
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Telford after a woman allegedly had petrol poured over her.
Police say they were called to Buttercup Close in Stirchley at 12.40am this morning where they found a man making threats, while pouring petrol over himself and the woman.
Two police officers also sustained chemical burns while arresting the suspect and required hospital treatment.
A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The man is currently in custody.
Detective Sergeant Ian Rutherford said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area between 11pm and 1am, particularly anyone who may have heard a disturbance from an address at around 12.40am, or who may have seen a red BMW parked at the junction of Longmeadow and Randley Avenue at this time.
"Anyone who saw a man, described as black, possibly carrying a fuel canister, believed to be in the area at the time are also urged to contact police.
"The incident was controlled within the address, and we believe the suspect is known to the victim so we do not believe there is any wider concern for the general public."
