Elderly woman injured as car crashes down embankment on Shropshire border

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after her car came off the road and crashed down an embankment on the Shroshire border.

Emergency services were called to the A495 Bronington, near Whitchurch, at about 11am after the car came off the road and landed in a ditch.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to one saloon car that had left the roadway and had gone into a ditch.

"There was an elderly woman inside and although she was not trapped she had leg injuries.

"Our crews cut away branches to gain access to the vehicle and she was released just after 11.30am.

"She was then taken to hospital by ambulance."

Police were on the scene of the incident which blocked the road and caused traffic along the road from Ellesmere to Whitchurch.

There were reports that the air ambulance was at the site and shortly after 12pm one lane was reopened to allow traffic through.
