Work starts to transform Shrewsbury buildings into apartments
The eastern approach to Shrewsbury will be radically altered as two dilapidated town centre buildings undergo a multi-million pound transformation.
Work has got under way to transform Chronicle House and Cambrian House, in Chester Street, into luxury apartments.
Former office block Cambrian House is being radically altered in a £3 million scheme which will see it transformed into 21 two and three bedroom apartments, including four penthouses.
The building is being totally stripped back internally before being rebuilt and then reclad with a mixture of oak panelling, zinc and render.
Chronicle House, which has stood empty since the Shrewsbury Chronicle and Shropshire Star vacated the building almost a decade ago, will be converted into six one and two bedroom apartments with a soft play area and coffee shop on the ground floor. The car park in between the two buildings will be built on to provide 11 one and two bedroom starter flats.
Works to the building and the attached car park will cost in the region of £2 million.
Developer Cory Irvin-Wright said: "The works will see that area of town totally regenerated. It will make it vibrant. Both properties have stood empty for quite some time and people have been wondering what is going on with them.
"Cambrian House has been totally stripped back and then rebuilt and reclad. Once works are completed, the 21 apartments will be sold on the open market. More than £3 million has been spent on the property to bring it up to scratch."
