Fire crews cordoned off the area in Beaconsfield last night while engineers from Western Power Distribution worked to make the cable safe and restore power.

A spokesman for the firm Western Power Distribution said the power cut had happened at about 8.35pm.

He said: "We had 3,062 properties originally affected. We were able to remotely switch 2,627 properties within the first seven minutes. We restored the remaining 435 supplies at 9.35pm.

"The fault was caused by a termination pole on our overhead network."
