'Gun case' police arrest Shrewsbury teenager

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after two people were seen attempting to force entry into a building allegedly armed with a gun.

Police were called to the Ditherington area of Shrewsbury at about 6am.

The boy was arrested at the scene but the search remains ongoing for the other suspect.

A pistol, which is believed to be a replica, was recovered by officers and is being examined.

Two male police officers received minor injuries during the course of the arrest. Both received hospital treatment but neither were admitted.

The boy, who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and on suspicion of assaulting police.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "At this time we do not believe there is any risk to the public."
