The alcohol was taken while event organisers were setting up a wedding reception at a barn in Bishops Offley, near Newport on Saturday.

Police are asking people to be on the look out for any similar thefts.

Constable Lee Thomas of West Mercia Police, said "We liaise regularly with our counterparts both in the neighbouring divisions of West Mercia Police and also with other police force areas that we border.

"Criminals don't respect county borders and so we must remain aware that when crime happens close to ourselves, the offenders can as easily pass onto our area and continue their offending as they can go the other way.

Constable Thomas advised anyone who is organising or setting up for a large event, wedding, summer fete or similar to be mindful.

He added: "Although the risk of this kind of activity is rare, there are a small number of people, who may take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself.

"If anyone in the Newport area is offered quantities of wine at very cheap prices, we would ask them to get in touch with police."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
