Ludlow Assembly Rooms seeking trustees to help bring in new era

Ludlow's theatre is looking for trustees to take it into a new era.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms (LAR), the town's central theatre, cinema, music and comedy venue, is calling for new blood to help run the institution, which is currently undergoing an overhaul after taking on the ground floor of the historic building from Shropshire Council.

But as the venue on the corner of High Street and Mill Street enters a new phase, a number of existing trustees are looking to retire and the board needs new people to refresh its membership.

The Assembly Rooms is a Grade II listed building built in the 1830s and run by a charitable trust.

Tony Johnston, marketing and publicity officer, said: "Ludlow Assembly Rooms is a dynamic local charity, which provides a lively mixed arts programme and a wide range of community facilities.

"We are supported by a small but dedicated staff team and a large number of committed volunteers. LAR is currently engaged in a long term project in which it is taking over the stewardship of the ground floor of the building, reinstating the entrance on the market square as its main entrance and transforming the ground floor space to become an integral part of the Assembly Rooms.

"The board of trustees is responsible for the governance and sustainability of this independent charity. Trustees should therefore have a capacity for strategic thinking and bring relevant experience."
