Not aliens: 'Clever' crop circle was vandals, says Shropshire farmer
Motorists travelling along the M54 may have been forgiven for thinking they could see the site of an alien landing at The Wrekin, where a huge crop circle has been formed.
But this is not extra terrestrial activity - with the farmer who owns the land knowing exactly what is responsible - vandals.
But farmer David Gwinn has another idea of who is responsible for the damage to his crop – which has been photographed by Shropshire firm 360 Skylens using a drone aircraft.
"It's these clever youths," said Mr Gwinn, of Charlton Farm, near Walcott.
"They go out and make them with a piece of wire."
Mr Gwinn – who has been farming for 73 years – said it was not the first time he had found such strange phenomena in his fields.
He said he would lose the crops that had been trampled down to make the two circles – a point echoed by the county's farming leaders.
Helen Cork, NFU Shropshire county adviser, said: "Creating crop circles on farmland is unfair and irresponsible – crop circlers always seem to forget that they are damaging someone's property.
"This is a seasonal issue and can cost farmers tens of thousands of pounds. Crop circle tourists who park their cars in gateways and then walk through the crops to get a closer look also cause problems."
